Chicago, Ill. - UIC Athletic Director Jim Schmidt announced on Friday that the contract of head volleyball coach Nancy Mueller will not be renewed and she has been relieved of her coaching duties after five seasons at the helm of the program.
Current assistant coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley has been elevated to the position of interim head coach and will take over the team, effective immediately.
"I want to thank Coach Mueller for her dedication to this university and her student-athletes over the last five years," Schmidt said. "I wish Coach Mueller all the best in her future endeavors."
The Flames concluded the 2008 season with a record of 14-18. UIC finished eighth in the Horizon League with a 5-11 mark before having its season end in the quarterfinals of the league tournament.
Mueller owned an overall record of 68-91 (.427) in her five seasons at UIC with a 33-41 (.445) mark in Horizon League contests. The Flames' best season under Mueller came in 2006 when they finished 17-17 and made their first-ever appearance in the Horizon League Tournament title match.
