UIC Gets Swept By Loyola
Nov. 13, 1999
CHICAGO - The UIC volleyball team finished off the 1999 regular season with a three-game loss at Loyola Saturday afternoon. The Ramblers downed the Flames 15-6, 15-12, 15-9 in front of 185 fans at Loyola’s Alumni Gym.
“We got beat, but for the first time against them this season we put up a fight,” Head Coach Don August said after the match. “They served us off the court and we didn’t serve that well. The two basics - serving and passing - was the difference tonight.”
The Flames committed nine service errors in the match, while the Ramblers tallied eight service aces led by Kelly Price who had three. Price also paced Loyola with a game-high 13 kills and an attack percentage of .500 (13-1-24).
Senior Kelly Colangelo (Chicago, Ill/Reavis) had a strong all-around game for UIC, ending the contest with 12 kills, seven digs, three assists, three blocks and one service ace. Jackie Utz (Chicago, Ill./Queen of Peace) was also in double-digits in kills with 10.
UIC now moves on to the 1999 MCC Tournament, hosted by Loyola, where they will be the #3 seed. August’s squad will meet sixth-seeded Cleveland State in the first round of the tournament on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 2:00 p.m. The Flames won both regular-season meetings with the Vikings this year.
