Flames Down Phoenix In Four

Green Bay, Wis. - The University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball team earned its seventh conference win with a 15-9, 11-15, 17-15, 15-11 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Friday night at the Phoenix Sports Center.
The seven league wins is the most since 1996 for the Flames and assures them of their first-ever above .500 finish in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. UIC is now 14-12 overall and 7-3 in the MCC.
Don Augustís squad used a solid inside-out attack to help lead them to victory as middle hitter Lynn Clarkson led the team with a game-high 16 kills, while outside hitters Kelly Colangelo (12 kills, 25 digs) and Jackie Utz (13 kills, 15 digs) both contributed double-doubles.
The Flames also received strong all-around games from Jill Greer and Erica Anderson. Greer, a middle hitter, ended the night with nine kills, 13 digs, three service aces and six blocks, while Anderson tallied 49 assists, 12 digs and three blocks.
The Phoenix attack was paced by Angie Sobocinski (14 kills, 20 digs) and Meg Olson (14 kills, 18 digs).
UIC can clinch sole possession of third place in the MCC tomorrow afternoon with a win over league-leading UW-Milwaukee, who dropped its first conference match of the season tonight to Loyola. The Flames and the Panthers locks horns at 2:00 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis.
