Sternard Named UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week|

CHICAGO – UIC volleyball player Sara Sternard has been selected as the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period Nov. 5-11. Sternard was instrumental in the Flames’ regular-season finale win over city-rival Loyola last Saturday and for her efforts she was named the Horizon League’s Offensive Player of the Week.
Sternard tallied a career-high hitting percentage of .684 against the Ramblers, totaling 13 kills on 19 attempts and zero errors. She also posted a career high in total blocks and block assists with eight apiece.
This marks the fifth occurrence that the volleyball team has won the UICFlames.com award, more than any other sport, and Sternard is now the fourth member of the squad to be recognized
The win over Loyola secured the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye for UIC in the upcoming Horizon League Championships. The Flames will play the highest remaining seed of the quarterfinals on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. CT. inside the Wolstein Center at Cleveland State. UIC enters the tournament on a high note after recently receiving a Midwest Regional ranking of No .9 out of the 43-team field.
