CHICAGO - The UIC volleyball team (14-11/6-3 Horizon League) faces Cleveland State and Youngstown State inside the Flames Athletic Center Friday at 7:00 p.m. (CT) and Saturday at 4:00 p.m., for weekend conference matches.
SCOUTING THE FLAMES UIC (14-11/6-3 Horizon League) ... Kelsey Safranek leads the team with 285 kills on the season, trailed closely by Aubrey Sniegowski with 265 (.272) ... Janise Dismuke exceeds the team defensively with 99 blocks, followed by Sara Sternard at 67 ... Maggie Strus has earned 448 digs ... MaryKate Imrie has dished out 1,019 assists.
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS Cleveland State (16-6/8-1 Horizon League) ... the Vikings have only one loss in the conference against Loyola ... the Ramblers topped Cleveland State, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-21) ... Kara Koch dominates the squad in kills with 369, followed by Marie Frease with 220 (.355) ... Annie Djukic has dished out 522 assists ... Amanda Medvetz leads the team in digs with 362.
SCOUTING THE PENGUINS Youngstown State (13-10/3-6) ... the Penguins have won two of their last three matches ... they defeated Milwaukee (3-1), Green Bay (3-2), while dropping to Cleveland State (3-0) ... Missy Hundelt paces the team with 290 kills, followed closely by Shannon Watson with 198 ... Erika West leads the squad defensively with 301 digs ... Jenna Cavanaugh has pitched in with 100 blocks.

Imrie posted a double-double against Cleveland State as she collected 10 digs and 25 assists ... Safranek chipped in with seven kills and seven digs ... Nicole Allgood had five kills, along with nine digs and an assist.
FLAMES AND PENGUINS IN 2012 UIC challenged the Penguins on September 28 inside the Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio ... Youngstown State outlasted UIC, 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-12) ... Safranek and Imrie captured double-double figures against Youngstown State ... Safranek had 14 kills and 18 digs, while Imrie dished out 58 assists and collected 17 digs ... HORIZON LEAGUE STANDINGS Cleveland State is currently in first place with a record of 8-1 ... trailing the Vikings is Loyola at 7-2 ... MaryKate Imrie Imrie averages 10.84 assists per set, the second-highest in the league ... she currently sits in third in the Horizon League in double-doubles with 13, behind only Julie Kolinske of Milwaukee and Heidi Spinter of Wright State with 16 and 14, respectively ... Imrie also ties for first in the league for most assists in a single match with 61, which she collected against Milwaukee on October 6.
Janise Dismuke Dismuke currently holds the second-best hitting percentage in the conference at .335 ... Dismuke also has the two highest attack percentages in a single match ... she had a .812 attack percentage against Eastern Illinois on October 3 ... the other came against Wright State on September 22 at .762.
STREAKING FLAMES Since Schumacher-Cawley took over the UIC volleyball program prior to the 2009 season, her team has posted three five-match winning streaks ... in 2009, it began with a victory over Chicago State (3-0) on October 20 and extended until a victory over Cleveland State (3-2) on October 31 ... during the 2011 season, the five-match winning streak began as the team defeated Chicago State (3-0) on September 19 and ended as the team downed Wright State (3-0) on October 1 ... this season, UIC went on a five-match winning streak ... the run began on October 3 as UIC defeated Eastern Illinois, 3-0, and continued through October 19 when the Flames swept Wright State.
LAST TIME OUT The Flames faced Chicago State Tuesday, October 23 and swept (25-12, 25-20, 25-19) the Cougars ... Safranek and Sniegowski led the way by knocking down eight kills each ... Sniegowski hit at .250 and also had an assist ... Sternard followed with seven kills and two digs.
