Volleyball Continues Conference Slate In Ohio|

CHICAGO - The UIC volleyball team (8-8/2-0 Horizon) travels to Ohio Friday and Saturday for continued conference play. The team faces Youngstown State (10-6/0-2 Horizon) at 6:00 p.m. (CT) Friday, followed by Cleveland State (10-5/2-0 Horizon) at 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
SCOUTING THE FLAMES UIC (8-8/2-0 Horizon League) ... Kelsey Safranek has 191 kills on the season, while Aubrey Sniegowski trails at 170 (.270) ... Janise Dismuke leads the team in blocks with 65, followed by Aubrey Sniegowski and Sara Sternard at 38 ... Maggie Strus has earned 293 digs ... MaryKate Imrie has chipped in with 633 assists.
SCOUTING THE PENGUINS Youngstown State (10-6/0-2 Horizon League) ... the Penguins dropped their first two conference matches against Milwaukee (3-1) and Green Bay (3-2) ... Missy Hundelt leads the team in kills with 200, followed by Shannon Watson with 137 (.248) ... Casey D'Ambrose has dished out 445 assists ... Erika West leads the team in digs with 187.
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS Cleveland State (10-5/2-0 Horizon League) ... the Vikings won their first two conference matches against Green Bay (3-1) and Milwaukee (3-0) ... Kara Koch leads the squad with 269 kills (.248) ...Annie Djukic has chipped in with 512 assists ... Marie Frease leads the team with 50 blocks ... Amanda Medvetz leads the squad in digs with 257.

MAGGIE: SHE'S A MUST-SEE Strus was named the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Sept. 17-23 ... Strus is the third-consecutive member of the volleyball squad to earn the honor ... in the opening weekend of conference play, the sophomore averaged 5.88 digs per set capturing 47 overall ... in the 3-1 victory over Valparaiso, she had 25 digs ... she then added 22 in a 3-1 win against Wright State ... Strus ranks fourth in the Horizon League in digs per set with an average of 4.88.
LAST TIME OUT UIC began league competition by defeating Valparaiso for the first time in nine meetings, 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 26-24, 26-24) on Sept. 21 ... Safranek and Molly McCoy posted 17 kills apiece ... UIC then defeated Wright State, 3-1 (22-10, 25-12, 20-25, 25-6) Sept. 22 ... in an all-around team effort, four Flames members chipped in with double digit kills, led by Kelsey Safranek with 20 ... Maggie Strus lead the team in digs with 22, followed by Justine Garcia and MaryKate Imrie with 21 and 15, respectively.
UP NEXT The team then returns to Chicago to face Eastern Illinois in a non-conference match on Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m. ... UIC then returns to conference play Oct. 5 at 7:00 p.m. against Green Bay and Milwaukee Oct. 7 at 4:00 p.m., both matches inside the Flames Athletic Center.
