Volleyball Opens Horizon League Play At Home Versus Butler On Friday Night
Sept. 22, 2006
Chicago, Ill. - The UIC volleyball team begins its quest for the Horizon League regular season title on Friday night by welcoming Butler to the Flames Athletic Center at 7 p.m. The match with the Bulldogs is the first of two on the slate for UIC this weekend as they will also play host to Wright State on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
The Flames enter Horizon League play with a record of 6-10 and are coming off a non-conference victory over Eastern Illinois on Tuesday night.
UIC is hoping to start league play in 2006 the same way it did in 2005 as the Flames kicked off Horizon League action by winning their first six matches. Included in that opening surge, were road victories over both Butler and Wright State.
UIC would end up splitting the season series with the Bulldogs, falling in four games to Butler in the last meeting at the Flames Athletic Center. The Flames won both regular-season confrontations with Wright State, but it was the Raiders who dashed UIC's Horizon League Tournament title hopes with a five-game, comeback win in last year's quarterfinal round.
Butler enters Friday's match with a record of 5-8, having lost its last seven matches. Wright State, meanwhile, has won five of its last six matches and owns a 6-8 record this season.
