Dismuke Named UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week

CHICAGO – UIC volleyball player Janise Dismuke has been selected as the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Sept. 3-9. Dismuke earned All-Tournament team honors for her efforts at the Chicago Classic this past weekend in a field that included No. 2 Penn State, Oregon State and city-rival DePaul. Dismuke totaled 29 kills and 12 blocks in four games last week to helped guide the Flames to a 2-2 record with notable wins over Northern Illinois (26-24, 25-13, 20-25, 25-20) and DePaul (25-22, 25-16, 26-24). The Huskies won the Mid-American conference in 2011 and touted an overall record of 28-7. UIC’s two losses came in competitive matches against the Beavers (22-25, 19-25, 25-27) and the second-ranked Nittany Lions (17-25, 18-25, 17-25). The Flames led Penn State nearly mid-way through each of the first two sets, causing seven lead changes and 11 ties throughout the match. The UIC volleyball team will return to action on Friday at the Memphis Tournament and square off against the Tigers at 12:00 p.m. CT. Alabama A&M, Belmont and Louisiana-Lafayette will also be competing in the event.
