    CHICAGO – The UIC volleyball team will play host to TCU Thursday at 5:00 p.m. (CT) inside the Flames Athletic Center, followed by the two-day UIC Invitational Friday and Saturday.

    SCOUTING THE FLAMES

    UIC has a 1-2 record after completing competition at the Kristen Dickmann Invitational at the U.S. Naval Academy … the Flames defeated Elon, 3-1, before falling 3-1 to Navy and UNC Wilmington … junior Sara Sternard paced the Flames and concluded the tournament with a .365 hitting percentage with 38 kills … she was named to the all-tournament team … senior setter MaryKate Imrie dished out 133 assists in the three matches at 11.08 per set.

    SCOUTING THE HORNED FROGS

    TCU has a 2-1 record … the team swept Furman, before dropping 3-0 to Georgia and defeating Lipscomb 3-1 … Ashley Smith leads the team with a hitting percentage of .253 with 27 kills … Alexis Heist has 56 assists and Trisha Langley has 40 … Sutton Sunstrum and Shane Peters each have 29 digs.

    SCOUTING THE PIONEERS

    Denver holds a 2-1 record … Colleen King is hitting .263 with 38 kills (2.92 per set) … Kate Acker has 47 digs at 3.62 per set … Bailey Karst has 125 assists at 9.62 per set … King and Sara Schmid have combined for 15 total blocks a piece.

    SCOUTING THE COUGARS

    Chicago State is currently 0-4 … the team 0-3 to McNeese State, DePaul and Indiana State … Providence defeated the Cougars 3-1 … Valeria Desiderio leads the team in kills with 45 at .133 … Mackenzie Lotter has 126 assists … Desiderio and Mia Townsell have 37 and 35 digs, respectively.

    SCOUTING THE HERD

    Marshall is currently 1-3 … the Herd defeated Montana, 3-1 … they fell to Virginia (0-3), James Madison (2-3) and Eastern Kentucky (1-3) … Ally Kiekover leads Marshall offensively with 48 kills at .359 … Sammie Bane has 163 assists (10.19 per set) … Dorothy Rahal has picked up 61 digs.

    STERNARD WITH A STRONG START

    Sternard was named to the Kristen Dickmann all-tournament team … she opened the tournament with 15 kills at a .414 clip to help UIC defeat Elon, 3-1 … she had 11 kills (.348) against Navy and 12 kills (.318) against UNC Wilmington … she totaled 38 kills at .365 for the weekend … she posted the highest hitting percentage for UIC in all three matches.

    YOPCHICK WITH THE HERD

    Assistant coach Ellen Yopchick served as an assistant to head coach Mitch Jacobs at Marshall for the 2007 and 2008 seasons … during her time there, she helped the Thundering Herd win the 2007 Conference USA regular season title.

    HORIZON LEAGUE PRESEASON HONORS

    Senior setter MaryKate Imrie was named to the Preseason all-Horizon League team … she enters her senior season after leading the Flames to the Horizon League championship match in 2012 … en route to the championship match, she logged 11 over-50 performances, including a season-high 63 assists during the semifinal match of the tournament in a 3-2 victory over Valparaiso to Nov. 17 … she led the Horizon League in assists and collected the most double-double performances in the League at 19 … she was named the team’s “Most Valuable Player” and was also an AVCA all-Midwest Honorable Mention.
