CHICAGO – Setter MaryKate Imrie returns for her final season with UIC after leading the Horizon League with 11.20 assists per set and the most double-double performances in the League with 19. The 2012 UIC volleyball “Most Valuable Player” is Wednesday’s featured student-athlete in the “Forty Flames to Follow” in 2013-14 summer series.

The Orland Park, Ill., native appeared in all 123 sets during the 2012 season, where she collected 1,377 sets, the most in the Horizon League, and the sixth overall in the UIC History and Records book for a single season. She had 11 over-50 assist performances and her season-high was 63 helpers against Valparaiso on Nov. 17, in a 3-2 victory to propel the Flames to the championship match of the Horizon League Tournament.

She was named an AVCA all-Midwest Honorable Mention honoree following the 2012 season, in addition to being an all-Horizon League selection.  She was also named to the Fall Horizon League all-academic team.

She was one of three volleyball members, along with Sara Sternard and Justine Garcia to receive the Chancellor’s Student Service and Leadership award.

Imrie, along with the rest of the UIC volleyball team begins the 2013 season on August 30 in a two-day tournament at Navy that features Elon, UNC-Wilmington and host Navy.
