CHICAGO – UIC’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) recently announced its officers for the 2013-14 academic year.  Volleyball player MaryKate Imrie will remain as SAAC President, while swimmer Anne Jacobsen and volleyball player Sara Sternard were voted in as Vice President and Secretary, respectively.  Elections were held at SAAC’s end-of-the-year meeting last week as the committee concluded activities for year.

Imrie will begin her second term as President as she prepares for her senior season with the Flames volleyball program.  The Orland Park, Ill., native helped guide her squad to the 2012 Horizon League Tournament Championship match, their first appearance since 2006.  For her efforts, Imrie received honorable mention accolades on the AVCA All-Midwest Region Team.  She also led the Horizon League with 11.2 assists per set and was named to the Fall Academic All-League team.

Jacobsen just completed her second season with the UIC swimming and diving team and capped it off with stellar performances at the conference championships.  The soon-to-be junior took home second place at the Horizon League meet in the 100 back and collected third-place honors in the 200 back.  Her 100 back time of 55.69 set a new school record as she also helped set all-time UIC marks in the 200 and 400 medley relays.

Sternard was a mainstay at the net for the Flames’ volleyball team this past season as she averaged 2.26 kills per set.  Along with Imrie, Sternard helped UIC to one of its best campaigns in recent memory, including a 10-4 conference mark and 19 overall wins.

Senior men’s basketball player Anthony Kelley served as Vice President this past year and senior women’s basketball player Heidi Dahnke held the office of Secretary.  Both Kelley and Dahnke provided tremendous leadership throughout their tenure, coordinating volunteer outings, organizing student-athlete events and serving as model representatives of UIC Athletics.
