Chicago, Ill. - The UIC volleyball team went 4-6 in its opening weekend of spring tournament action at the Flames Athletic Center on Saturday, April 5.

The Flames welcomed Colorado, Michigan, Northwestern, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, Milwaukee and Loyola for a day of round robin exhibition action in the UIC Spring Tournament.

The event was played on two courts with two sets of 25 against each opponent.

UIC split with Colorado, Northern Illinois, Milwaukee and Loyola. Despite an impressive performance, the Flames fell in both games to Big Ten's Michigan.

"It was a great weekend with a high level of competition," said head coach Nancy Mueller. "Our team performed very well for the first spring tournament."

Christin Hunt led the team with a .333 hitting percentage. The junior totaled 28 kills in seven games.

Katerina Hanackova tallied a team-best 34 kills, while Katarina Nedeljkovic recorded 20 kills after returning from shoulder surgery last spring.

The Flames face three opponents this weekend in the Northwestern Tournament on April 12. UIC battles host Northwestern (9 a.m.), Illinois State (11 a.m.) and Bradley (1 p.m.) in the day-long event.
