Seven UIC Student-Athletes Named to HL Fall All-Academic Teams
Jan. 16, 2014
INDIANAPOLIS - The Horizon League announced Thursday (Jan. 16) that seven UIC student-athletes earned 2013 Fall Academic All-League recognition, an increase of five from last year. The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports.
UIC’s seven honorees came in third place in the conference after an eighth-place finish last fall. MaryKate Imrie (volleyball) was honored for the second consecutive season.
Volleyball, men’s cross country and men’s soccer all had two student-athletes awarded. Tess Ehrhardt, the Horizon League Cross Country Women’s Athlete of the Year, was the Flames’ lone women’s cross country honoree.
"Our student-athletes continue to raise the bar academically and athletically. Having seven student-athletes make the Horizon League Fall All-Academic Teams, which is an increase of five students from the previous year, is just fantastic," said UIC Director of Athletics Jim Schmidt. "Kudos to these students for earning a 3.2 grade-point-average after a semester filled with long days of classes, practice, weight lifting, conditioning and study hall.”
A total of 53 student-athletes from five fall sports were honored in balloting by the League’s faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
