Indianapolis, Ind. - The University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball team's hopes for an opening round bye in next weekend's Horizon League Tournament were dashed as Butler whitewashed the visiting Flames, 30-23, 30-20, 30-24, at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon to end the regular season.
Butler attacked the Flames from all angles as five Bulldogs notched seven or more kills on the afternoon, led by Kali Carter's double-double of 11 kills and 11 digs. The Bulldogs also received impressive performances from Krystal Hendrix (10 kills, .562 hitting percentage), Elizabeth Moreau (8 kills, .727 hitting percentage), Michelle DeGeeter (8 kills, 9 total blocks) and Areal Bienemy (7 kills, 8 total blocks).
For the match, Butler finished with a hitting percentage of .354 (46 kills, 11 errors, 99 attacks), while the Flames ended with a hitting percentage of .080 (41 kills, 31 errors, 125 attacks).
With the victory, Butler improves to 18-9 overall and 12-2 in Horizon League play, while the Flames drop to 10-20 on the campaign and 6-8 in league action. With the loss, UIC secures fifth-place in the Horizon League and will square off with eighth-place Youngstown State in the opening round of the league tournament on Thursday.
