Volleyball Continues Hot Streak With Win Over Western Illinois

Chicago, Ill. - The UIC volleyball team continued its hot streak with a four-set (25-18, 25-14, 21-25, 25-22) road victory over Western Illinois on Tuesday night in Macomb, Ill. Katerina Hanackova and Casie Sullivan each recorded double-doubles. Hanackova led the Flames in kills with 14, while Katarina Nedeljkovic tallied a team-best 18 digs. Erin Frick led the attack for Western Illinois with 12 kills. Western Illinois and UIC battled tightly in set one before the Flames recorded a 6-1 run to take a considerable lead. The Westerwinds answered with consecutive points to within two, but the Flames sparked a second burst for the 25-18 win. UIC was solid defensively in the first set, holding WIU to a .053 attack percentage. UIC cruised to an 15-6 lead to open set two. Leading by eight late in the frame, UIC went on a 7-2 run to head into the 10-minute break with a 2-0 match advantage after handing Western Illinois a 25-14 loss in the second set. Trailing 12-9, Western Illinois recorded three straight points to knot the third set at 12 each. The game tied four more times before the Westerwinds went on a 6-2 run to notch its first set victory (25-21). UIC posted a 7-1 burst to tie set four at 14 all. It remained close until the final frame. With a two-point lead, the Flames captured the match victory on a WIU attack error. The Flames face Loyola at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Alumni Gym.
