Volleyball Snaps Losing Streak Against Eastern Illinois|

Charleston, Ill. - Senior outside hitter Teaha Shepperd recorded her second 20/20 of the season as the Kalamazoo, Mich., native notched a career-high 29 kills and 26 digs help the University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball team snap its six-losing streak with a 25-30, 32-34, 30-26, 30-26, 24-22 come-from-behind, non-conference victory over Eastern Illinois at Lantz Arena on Tuesday night.
"It feels good to end the losing streak," UIC head coach Don August said. "We made it way harder than it needed to be, but any win is a good win."
Junior middle hitter Kristi Herrington also turned in a solid effort for the Flames with 23 kills and nine blocks (2 solo, 7 assists).
In her first start since suffering a stress fracture in her right foot, senior libero Lindsey Filkins notched a career-high 28 digs for the Flames. UIC outdug Eastern Illinois, 106 to 92.
With the victory, UIC improves to 8-14 overall, while the Panthers fall to 6-15 on the campaign.
Mary Welch led Eastern Illinois with 17 kills, while Megan Kennedy (16 kills), Erica Gerth (12 kills) and Shanna Ruxer (10 kills) each turned in solid efforts for the Panthers.
UIC will be back in action on Friday evening, as they will host cross-town and Horizon League rival, Loyola, at 7:00 p.m. in the Flames Athletic Center.
