Cleveland, Ohio - Cleveland State's Michelle Iafigliola recorded 19 kills and 19 digs to lead the host Vikings to the 30-25, 30-22, 30-26 Horizon League victory over the University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball team at the Woodling Gym on Friday evening.
Cleveland State improves to 13-5 overall and 2-2 in Horizon League play, while UIC falls to 14-7 on the campaign and 2-2 in league action.
"(Cleveland State) played very well and we didn't," UIC head coach Don August said. "That was the match in a nutshell."
Junior outside hitter Teaha Shepperd (Kalamazoo, Mich./Galesburg-Augusta) led UIC with 10 kills and nine digs, while teammates Lara Clarkson (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte/DePaul) and Kristi Herrington (St. Louis, Mich./St. Louis) each chipped in seven kills apiece.
"(Cleveland State) was more aggressive and they were the better team tonight," August said. "They absolutely pounded us."
Cleveland State recorded 60 kills to UIC's 34 on the night and registered 125 attacks to the Flames' 101. Jamie Bouyer added 13 kills for the Vikings.
UIC will be back in action tomorrow as they will continue their Ohio road trip and take on Youngstown State at 1:00 p.m. (CST).
