Volleyball Falls To Green Bay In Three Sets On The Road

Green Bay, Wis. - Despite a close battle, the UIC volleyball team fell in three sets (23-25, 25-27, 20-25) to Green Bay on Tuesday night at the Kress Events Center. Katerina Hanackova led the UIC attack with eight kills. Libero Taylor Szatkowski totaled a team-high 16 digs. Holly Visser paced Green Bay with 15 kills. UIC led Green Bay early in set one, but the Phoenix tied up the set at 11-11 with four straight points. The first set knotted four more times before the Flames took a 21-20 advantage on a Green Bay service error. The Phoenix then sparked a 4-1 run to take set one, 25-23. Trailing 11-7, the Flames recorded a 6-2 burst to tie the set at 13-13. The set remained close throughout the last frame with UIC taking a brief two-point lead (23-21), but Green Bay answered with a 6-2 run to win in extra points. Set three played out like the first two sets with several lead changes. Tied at 18-18, Green Bay posted a 6-2 run to clinch match victory (25-20). UIC returns to Chicago for a weekend of matches at the Flames Athletic Center. The Flames face Wright State on Saturday, Oct. 4 and Quinnipiac on Sunday, Oct. 5.
