Butler Sweeps Volleyball, 30-21, 30-18, 30-27|
Chicago, Ill. - After dropping a heart-breaking five-game match at the hands of Wright State on Friday night, the University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball team was looking to rebound in fine fashion on Saturday afternoon against the Butler Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs, however, did not comply with the Flames as Butler earned the 30-21, 30-18, 30-27 Horizon League sweep over UIC at the Flames Athletic Center.
With the victory, Butler improves to 10-6 overall and 2-0 in Horizon League play, while the Flames drop to 7-10 on the season and remain winless in Horizon League action.
Butler's Kali Carter led the way for the Bulldogs with a double-double of 13 kills and 11 digs, while teammates Megan Knightly (8 kills, 13 digs) and Krystal Hendrix (7 kills, 11 total blocks) each turned in impressive performances.
Blocking was key for Butler, as the Bulldogs - led by Hendrix - recorded 12 team blocks in the three-game match.
Junior middle hitter Kristi Herrington led UIC with eight kills, while senior outside hitter Teaha Shepperd added seven kills and 11 digs for the Flames.
UIC struggled throughout the match as they finished with a hitting percentage of .000 (31 kills, 31 errors, 120 attacks).
UIC will be back in action on Friday, as they will travel to Ohio to square off with Youngstown State in a Horizon League match at 6:00 p.m. (CST).
