Chicago, Ill. - UIC volleyball (8-5) recorded an impressive comeback against Green Bay in game five (30-26, 23-30, 35-33, 26-30, 17-15) to notch its first Horizon League victory of the season. Sophomore Lana Lobdell picked up a career- and team-high 19 kills, while Katerina Hanackova tabbed her seventh double-double on the year with 17 kills and 22 digs.

Senior Amanda Kenny totaled 16 kills and freshman Epiphany Davis added 12 kills and a team-best .385 attack percentage on the night. Freshman Dana Van Syckle totaled 58 assists and 17 digs.

Nikki Hintze paced Green Bay with 19 kills and 12 digs. Liesl Tesch owned a team-best 25 kills and Megan Elfering totaled a team-high 18 digs in the five-game match.

UIC came out strong in game one with a .308 attack percentage. The Flames recorded an 8-3 run midway through the first game, eventually taking an early 1-0 advantage (30-26).

Green Bay bounced back in game two with a .333 attack percentage. The Phoenix tied up the match with a seven-point win in game two (30-23).

Trailing for most of game three, UIC rallied to tie it up at 26-26 late in the frame. Knotted at 33-33, Green Bay's Tesch recorded two attack errors to give the Flames the victory (35-33).

The Phoenix refused to go quietly and battled in game four. The score remained tight until Green Bay posted a 6-2 run late in the game for a 30-26 win.

Green Bay took any early lead in the fifth and final game, notching the first four points. UIC then put together a 6-2 run to tie it at 6-6. The Phoenix took a 10-7 advantage, but the Flames powered ahead and captured the match victory (17-15).

 

 

UIC travels to Indiana for its first Horizon League road match on Friday, Sept. 21 against Valparaiso.
