    Oxford, Miss. - The UL-Lafayette Volleyball team used a strong blocking effort to rally from a 2-1 deficit and lift the Ragin' Cajuns to the 18-30, 30-24, 18-30, 30-19, 15-6 victory over the University of Illinois at Chicago in the Flames' opening match of the Rebel Classic, hosted by Ole Miss, at Gullom Sports Center on Friday afternoon.

    For the match, the Ragin' Cajuns tallied 17 team blocks, led by two solo blocks and six block assists from Stacy Liverett (8 kills).

    UL-Lafayette's Hope Webre paced the Ragin' Cajuns offensive attack with 15 kills, while teammate Jessica Pattison chipped in 14.

    With the victory, UL-Lafayette improves to 3-9 overall, while the Flames drop to 4-7 on the season.

    UIC performed admirably through the first three matches as they accumulated a hitting percentage of .231, but weren't as successful in the final two contests, as they combined for a hitting percentage of -.067. For the match, UIC committed 35 hitting errors and hit at a clip of .136.

    Following their 30-19 victory over the Flames in Game Four, UL-Lafayette made short work of UIC in the deciding game, hitting .667 (9 kills, 1 error, 12 attacks), to clinch the victory.

    UIC's Kristi Herrington led the Flames with a match-high, 16 kills, while teammate Ambria Springer added 14 kills.

    UIC will be back in action at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night, as they will square off with the host Rebels in their second match of the day.
