MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The UIC volleyball team (6-7/0-0 HL) defeated Louisiana-Lafayette, 3-2 (25-27, 14-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-13) in comeback fashion Saturday inside the Elma Roane Fieldhouse in Memphis, Tenn. Sophomore Molly McCoy (St. Charles, Ill./Wheaton Academy) and redshirt sophomore Maggie Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) piloted the Flames by posting career-high numbers.

McCoy captured 14 kills to best her former career-high of 12 kills, which was set on Sept. 10, 2011 against Southeast Missouri State. The outside hitter totaled a .270 hitting percentage in the victory. Strus collected 28 digs to overturn her previous best of 20 digs, which she collected against Cleveland State on Nov. 4, 2011.

Senior Kelsey Safranek (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) led all players in kills with 20 (.217). Senior Aubrey Sniegowski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont Township) chipped in 10 kills, while also collecting five blocks.

Despite a 2-0 deficit, the Flames kept battling and won the next three sets to claim the match.

In the fourth set, McCoy collected five kills at .625, while Safranek chipped in an addition six. The duo led the team to a 25-23 lead, which tied the match at 2-2.

Moving into the deciding set, Safranek continued to handle the Ragin' Cajuns as she posted six kills (.500) and the Flames defeated Louisiana-Lafayette 15-13 to secure the victory, 3-2.
