MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The UIC volleyball team (4-7/0-0 HL) dropped a close decision to Memphis Friday as the Flames fell in the deciding fifth set (25-23, 20-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-7) inside the Elma Roane Fieldhouse in Memphis, Tenn. The teams played fairly even, but with the Tigers hitting at .310, in comparison to UIC's .239, Memphis was able to outlast the Flames.

Four Flames members posted kills in the double digits. Among them, seniors Kelsey Safranek (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) and Janise Dismuke (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) with 14 and 12, respectively. Sophomore Molly McCoy (St. Charles, Ill./Wheaton Academy) with 11 and senior Aubrey Sniegowski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont Township) with 10.

After dropping the first set 25-20 to the Tigers, UIC rallied back in the second set as the team gained an early 10-4 lead over Memphis. It was a lead that the Tigers were unable to overcome, and resulted in a 25-20 victory for UIC to tie the match at 1-1.

Moving into the third set, UIC and Memphis battled back and forth through the early portion of the game. The teams then tied the score at 12, before UIC pulled away to outscore the Tigers 9-3 for a hefty 21-15 lead. The Flames compiled a .423 hitting percentage to lift them to victory.

Despite leading the match 2-1, the Tigers battled back by taking the fourth set 25-20 to even the score at 2-2. From there, Memphis clinched the match in a 15-7 outcome in the deciding set.
