Fairfield, Conn. - University of Illinois at Chicago junior outside hitter Lindsey Filkins (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove) recorded a match-high 14 kills to help propel the Flames to the 30-17, 32-30, 30-21 victory over host Fairfield and to the Fairfield Volleyball Classic tournament title at Alumni Hall on Saturday evening.

With the victory, UIC improves to 9-2 on the season, while Fairfield falls to 4-6 on the campaign. The tournament victory also marks the Flames' third tournament win this season in as many attempts.

UIC also received solid performances from both senior outside hitter Lara Clarkson (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte/DePaul) and junior setter Meghan Keck (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township/Auburn).

Clarkson recorded 10 kills and 12 digs, while Keck chipped in a match-high 32 assists.

UIC head coach Don August was clearly pleased with his team's performance following the match.

"We started off real strong, and then we just took the game to Fairfield," August said. "The match-ups against Fairfield were how we wanted them and we just went after them."

Casey Machon and Erin Doherty each led Fairfield with six kills apiece.

August realizes that his squad has a long season ahead of him, but he is taking time to enjoy the moment.

"We're very pleased with where we're at," August said. "We have all of the long road trips out of the way and we have some very tough match-ups ahead."

UIC will be back in action on Tuesday evening, as they will host in-state rival, Eastern Illinois at the Flames Athletic Center at 7:00 p.m.
