    DeKalb, Ill. - The University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball team had to endure a deflating five-game loss at the hands of Northern Illinois on Friday night.

    The Flames' struggles continued, as they were swept by Valparaiso, 30-26, 30-22, 30-23, in their second match of the NIU Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational at Victor E. Court on Saturday afternoon.

    Senior Teaha Shepperd led UIC with 11 kills and eight digs, while teammate Kristi Herrington added nine kills for the Flames.

    UIC was done in by costly errors, as they hit a meager .065 (40 kills, 31 errors, 138 attacks) for the match. Shepperd, Herrington and Megan Hoffman (4 kills) were the only Flames starters to record a positive hitting percentage on the afternoon.

    With the loss, UIC falls to 3-6 on the campaign, while Valparaiso improves to 10-1 overall.

    Liz Mikos led the Crusaders with 11 kills, while setter Cyndi Norman posted a double-double of 32 assists and 10 digs.

    UIC will be back in action Saturday evening, as they will square off with Stony Brook in their final match of the tournament at 5:00 p.m.
