CHICAGO - The UIC volleyball team has a 5-0 record to begin the season as the squad dropped Montana State, 3-1 (18-25, 25-15, 25-22, 15-14) Saturday at the Flames Athletic Center in Chicago, Ill. Junior Kelsey Safranek (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) led the match in kills with 17.

"I thought that everyone that came in today contributed," said head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley. "Aubrey (Sniegowski) came in and had a kill, Tia (Incapreo) was passing well and Jacqueline (Lang) with her serving. Everyone was ready to go and it was a great team win."

The Flames (5-0) fell to the Bobcats in the first set by an 18-25 decision, before controlling the second set to a 25-15 victory. UIC hammered down 15 kills, in comparison to Montana State's seven to propel the squad to a win and a 1-1 tie in the match.

In the third set freshman Dominique Aramburu (Chicago, Ill./Mother McCauley) entered the match early to serve for three consecutive points, while also adding three digs in the set. Upon Aramburu's run, the Flames continued to improve their lead and closed out the set in a 25-22 victory.

In the fourth and final set of the day, the two teams battled back and forth until UIC caught momentum as redshirt sophomore Jacqueling Lang (Chicago, Ill./Marist) went on two separate three-point runs to lead to an eventual 25-14 defeat and a 3-1 outcome in the match.

Sophomore MaryKate Imrie (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) dealt out 38 assists, while claiming 14 digs on the day. Justine Garcia (Chicago, Ill./Brooks) led the match in digs with 21, while adding two service aces.

The Flames return to action Saturday in at 7:00 p.m. against Northwestern in the Chicagoland Challenge championship match at the Flames Athletic Center. Fans can follow all of the action with live statistics and a live web stream through UICFlames.com.
