Volleyball Whitewashes Tennessee State, 30-24, 30-24, 30-26|

Memphis, Tenn. - University of Illinois at Chicago Head Volleyball Coach Nancy Mueller picked up her first victory as the Flames' skipper, leading UIC to the 30-24, 30-24, 30-26 victory over Tennessee State in the opening match of the Memphis Invitational at Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Friday morning.
With the victory, UIC improves to 1-1 on the campaign, while the Tigers fall to 0-1 overall.
Senior outside hitter Dawn Strahanoski topped the Flames with a career-high, 10 kills and 10 digs, while teammate Jordan Studzinski added nine kills. Seven different players posted at least four kills in the victory.
"Our bench played very well today," Mueller said. "We had to utilize a lot of players in order to be productive in the match."
Studzinski also led UIC with a career-high four service aces, as the Flames finished with 15 aces for the match. Strahanoski and Jillian Kufta each chipped in three aces apiece.
"We served very aggressively today," Mueller said. "We took them out of their offense and it allowed us more time to set up our defense."
Allyson Buckner led Tennessee State with 11 kills.
UIC will be back in action at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon, as they will square off with Delaware State.
