Mount Pleasant, Mich. - Chalk it up as a learning experience for the University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball team.
Central Michigan swept UIC, 30-23, 30-25, 30-27, on Saturday night in Rose Arena to send the Flames home winless for the tournament.
With the loss, UIC drops to 0-3 on the campaign, while the Chippewas improve to 1-2 overall.
Despite the loss, UIC head coach Don August sensed a better attitude on the court in Saturday night's contest.
"There was a better feeling on the court," August said. "The games were competitive, a lot tougher and harder fought.
"We were in position to win each of those games, but when push came to shove, Central Michigan made the plays when they needed to."
Senior Teaha Shepperd, who was named to the Chippewa Classic All-Tournament team, was one of the few bright spots for the Flames on Saturday night, recording a match-high 15 kills and 14 digs.
Megan Moore and Melissa Reynolds paced Central Michigan offensively, as both chipped in 10 kills for the Chippewas. Central Michigan was also tough at the net, recording 11 blocks in the three-game sweep.
The Flames will be back in action on Friday night, as they will host Mississippi in the first round of the UIC Invitational at 7:30 p.m. in the UIC Pavilion.
