DEKALB, Ill.- The resilient UIC volleyball team rallied from two games down against host Northern Illinois to send the match into a fifth and deciding set, but the Flames were unable to complete the comeback and fell to the host Huskies, 3-2 (25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 23-25, 15-10), in the finale of the NIU Comfort Inn & Suites of Rochelle Invitational at Victor E. Court on Saturday night.

Nicole Allgood led UIC (1-3) with 16 kills and added 14 digs for a double-double. Casie Sullivan pitched in 14 kills and 16 digs for a double-dip of her own, while Lana Lobdell posted 14 kills and 10 block assists.

Jessica Dalke dished out 51 assists and was named to the all-tournament team after the match. Dalke accumulated 155 assists in four matches, averaging 9.69 assists per game.

"We really competed and did some good things," said head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley. "We just had a couple of errors in that final game that plagued us.

"Kelsey Safranek did an excellent job tonight, and Jess Dalke had a great weekend," said Schumacher-Cawley. "Every game we improved and learned something, and this was a great tournament to see where we are at and what we need to work on. I'm looking forward to the upcoming week of practice and getting ready for next weekend."

Northern Illinois (3-1) used late rallies to break open the tightly-contested first pair of games and go ahead 2-0.

The Huskies led 20-18 in game three when the Flames outscored the hosts 7-3, fueled by two kills from Allgood and consecutive kills from Safranek and Dalke that severed a 23-23 draw and extended the match.

The Flames used that momentum to open the fourth game with five straight points. UIC led most of the game until Northern Illinois crept back and eventually took a 22-21 advantage. But for the second straight game Safranek broke a 23-23 tie with a kill, and a Huskie error gave UIC the frame and forced a winner-take-all fifth game.

The final game was tight early, but the Huskies outscored the Flames 8-2 to go up six and eventually take the match.

UIC heads to the IU adidas Classic next weekend in Bloomington, Ind.
