Kelly Colangelo enters her second season on the coaching staff for the University of Illinois at Chicago. Colangelo played three years for Purdue before transferring her senior year to UIC, ending her college career under former head coach Don August.
Prior to joining UIC's coaching staff, Colangelo has held numerous coaching positions in the Chicagoland area. Most recently, Colangelo was the head coach at NAIA Robert Morris College in 2005. A P.E. and Health Teacher at Marist High School, Colangelo also assisted the men's volleyball team from 2002-2005 and aided the women's team until November 2004.
Along with her teaching responsibilities, Colangelo has served as the head instructor for Elite Volleyball Camp in Chicago for over a decade.
"Kelly has been a great addition to the staff," said head coach Nancy Mueller. "Her enthusiasm, knowledge of the game, and work ethic are what make her so successful as a coach. Kelly is rapidly becoming one of the top assistants I've ever had the privilege of working with in all my years as a head coach."
While playing for the Purdue, Colangelo was an All-Big Ten All Academic for two years, named to five all-tournament teams and received Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors for one of those competitions. Colangelo transferred to UIC her senior year where she was named team captain and received all-conference honors. After the conclusion of volleyball, Colangelo went on to compete in Track and Field for the Flames in the spring, where she was also named captain and competed in shot put, javelin, discuss and weight throw.
