UIC fought back from a 2-0 deficit to rally for a 3-2 victory (16-25, 18-25, 25-18, 26-24, 15-13) over Cleveland State. The decisive fifth frame was stalemated until Sara Sternard's fourth kill of the set put UIC up 14-13. With Tracy Friel serving, the Flames' intimidating block forced Kerry Winchester to send an attack long and UIC had rallied back for its first Horizon League victory of the season.

UIC picked up its biggest win of the season with a five-set thrilling home victory over Marshall on the opening night of the UIC Invitational. The Flames held a 2-1 advantage, dropped the fourth set but hit .435 in the fifth and decisive set to seal the victory. The win helped UIC place second in its own tournament.
UIC head volleyball coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley announced the 2014 schedule Tuesday, a slate that features 12 home matches and the annual UIC Invitational in mid-September. The Flames will also make non-conference tournament trips to Marshall and defending-national champions Penn State prior to the beginning of Horizon League play.
The Horizon League has announced that 58 teams tallied perfect 1000 Academic Progress Rates (APR) in the 2012-13 academic year. Three of those squads are from UIC as the volleyball, baseball and women's swimming & diving teams recorded perfect scores.
The UIC volleyball team played host to seven schools for a spring tournament Saturday (April 12) inside the Flames Athletic Center. The Flames competed against Lewis, Northern Illinois, Kishwaukee College and Eastern Illinois.
