Dec. 6, 2007

Chicago, Ill. - UIC student-athlete Mary Brennan (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) was selected to the 2007 Fall Academic All-Horizon League team for her performances in the classroom and on the field of competition, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.

Brennan owns an impressive 4.0 grade point average as a biology major. The first-time honoree was one of UIC's top leading distance runners in the 2007 season, competing in all six meets. Brennan posted a Top 20 finish in the 2-mile run at the UIC Home Opener on Sept. 1. She also ran a career-best 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:28 at the Illinois Intercollegiate Invitational on Sept. 14.

Academic All-Horizon League honorees are selected through voting by faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors of all league schools. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution having earned at least 24 semester-hour credits.
