Junior Melissa Matthews placed 32nd out of 86 runners. Nov. 1, 1999 The UIC women's cross country team finished in sixth-place at the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Championships in Livona, Mich. Junior Melissa Matthews (Chicago, Ill./Madonna) was the top finisher for the Flames, placing 32nd out of 86 runners. Matthews finished the hilly five-kilometer course in a time of 20:20.72 to cross the finish line first for UIC. Senior Rebecca Prince (Rockford, Ill./Winnebago) came in second for the Flames, finishing 43rd overall in a time of 21:11.17. As a team UIC finished with 181 points, placing sixth in the conference. Butler University took the 1999 MCC Cross Country title, finishing with 30 points. "Our women gave an outstanding effort," said UIC Head Coach Jim Knoedel. "It was a tough course and they gave it all they had. I think it gives us something to build on for next season." |
