Petty, Kosek Named To 2006 Fall Academic All-Horizon League Teams
Dec. 1, 2006 Chicago, Ill.- UIC senior student-athletes Lisa Petty (Brookfield, Ill./Lyons Township) and Derek Kosek (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) were selected to the 2006 Fall Academic All-Horizon League teams for their performances in the classroom and on the field of competition, the league office announced. Both Kosek, a back on the UIC soccer team, and Petty, a runner on the women's cross country team, are repeat selections. Petty, who has a 3.69 GPA in the teaching of history curriculum, capped another fine fall campaign as one of UIC's top distance runners. She helped the Flames finish fourth at the Horizon League Championships for the second consecutive season with a 19th-place individual finish. Kosek owns a 3.53 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as an elementary education major. The 2006 All-Horizon League First Teamer captained this year's soccer squad to one of the most successful seasons in school history this past fall, anchoring the nation's top-ranked defense on a UIC team that captured the 2006 Horizon League regular season title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Academic All-Horizon League honorees are selected through voting by faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors of all league schools. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution having earned at least 24 semester-hour credits.
