CHICAGO—The UIC men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to travel to Peoria, Ill., where they will compete at the Bradley Classic this Friday. This is the last regular season meet for both teams as the men’s 8k race will begin at 3:00 p.m. (CT), and the women’s 5k race will start at 3:40 p.m.

“We'll have some great competition from the 15+ DI schools throughout the Midwest but we expect our men and women to be in the top 4-5 overall this weekend,” head cross country coach Jim Knoedel said. “The frosh continue to be an important part of our strength and as our upper-class athletes regain top running form, we will surprise a lot of teams.”

Last week, freshmen Emma Preston and Pat Niyork were named the Horizon League’s Cross Country Runners of the Week. At the Lucian Rosa XC Invite, Preston finished 7th in the 5k race with a time of 18:28.50, while Niyork finished 35th in the 8k competition with a time of 26:08.00.

Competing against 20-plus teams, including representatives from previous regional rankings, the UIC cross country teams are ready to go out and end the regular season strong. They will need all of the momentum they can build to carry over into the Horizon League Championships on October 27 in Kenosha, WIsc.
