CHICAGO - The UIC cross country teams are set to compete in the UW-Parkside Invitational in Kenosha, Wis., Saturday at 10:00 a.m. CT. The women’s 5K race starts at 10:00 a.m., while the men’s 8K race will begin at 11:00 a.m.  Saturday’s race serves as a great opportunity for the Flames as the Horizon League Championship on Oct. 27 will be held at the same location.

“What we have to do more than anything else is close the gap on our number one and number seven runners and also close the gap on Loyola,” said head cross country coach Jim Knoedel. “I know the experience of the course will help a lot because there is a big hill on the course, and I think that the more accustomed we are to the course, the more prepared we will be for the Horizon League Championship.”

Most recently, the men’s and women’s teams participated in the Loyola Lakefront Invitational where freshman Pat Niyork placed 51st overall with an 8K time of 26:05. Sophomore Rebecca Zaiter guided the women and placed 100th in the 5K race with a season-best result of 19:06.
