Cross Country to Compete in College of DuPage Invitational|
Sept. 26, 2013
Chicago- The UIC cross country program travels to Warrenville, Ill., for the College of DuPage Invitational Friday, Sept. 27. The men’s squad will be competing in an 8K and the women in a 5K, set to start at 4:00 p.m. CT.
The women’s team looks to junior Tess Ehrhardt and teammates Emma Preston and Lauren Lindholm to lead the Flames during the race at St. James Farm. Ehrhardt paced UIC in the 5K at the ISU Invite, finishing fifth-place overall with a time of 17:44.01.
On the men’s side, freshman Kyle Hauser proved to be a strong competitor for the Flames in the 8K, as he piloted the squad to a sixth-place finish at the ISU Invite with a time of 25:45.91.
“I consider a good work ethic the most important quality of a freshman and our group has shown this at every workout,” said head coach Jim Knoedel. “I don’t expect them to take charge or be the leaders but I want them to realize success at the college level comes more from hard work than it does from talent.”
The Flames will be competing against roughly 25 teams, including conference rivals Milwaukee and Green Bay.
“I’m anxious to see where we compete after a two week layoff and these teams will certainly provide the challenge to see where we are at,” said Knoedel.
