UIC Heads to DeKalb for the NIU Invitational
CHICAGO- The UIC cross country team travels to DeKalb, Ill., on Friday, Sept. 7 for the NIU Invitational. The men’s squad will be running a 6K race, while the women will compete in a 5K. All events are set to begin at 5:45 p.m. CT.
"We've had another solid week of training and I expect the athletes to step it up another notch on Friday,” said head coach Jim Knoedel. “We'll be facing competition from Marquette and DePaul, along with the fourth-ranked Northwestern women so the races will be fast. Our goal is to close the gap between our #1 and #4 runners and see where that puts us in the competition.”
Freshman Billy Clink was named Horizon League Runner of the Week after placing second overall in his first race as a Flame. After earning a first place finish last weekend at the UIC Home Opener, the men’s squad is looking to gain another title while running against DePaul, Marquette, and Chicago State.
The women’s squad placed second behind NIU in their home opener as sophomore runner Tess Ehrhardt (11:42.6) led the Flames by placing sixth in the two-mile race. The squad is looking to regain its first-place title back from the Huskies and race against DePaul, Northwestern, Marquette, and Chicago State.
