CHICAGO – UICFlames.com continues its coverage for the ‘Forty Flames to Follow’ summer series with distance standout Emma Preston. The sophomore-to-be returns to a Flames’ cross country team that captured the runner-up title at the 2012 Horizon League Championships, the program’s highest-ever finish.
Preston picked up second-team All-Horizon League honors at the conference meet with a ninth-place showing, recording a time of 18:34 in the 5K race. Earlier in the season, Preston notched a team-season best result of 18:17 in the 5K at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships, good enough for 18th place. The East Peoria, Ill., native continued her strong performances during the outdoor portion of 2013. On April 20, at the Huskie Blue Demon Classic, Preston took home runner-up honors in the 1,500 m. run with a time of 4:43.84.
