CHICAGO - Head men's and women's cross country/track & field coach Jim Knoedel released UIC's 2012 cross country schedule Tuesday, a slate that features nine meets, including six in the state of Illinois.

The Flames will open the campaign by hosting their annual home opener at Horse Trail Lake in Palos Heights, Ill., on Saturday, Sept. 1. Six days later, UIC will travel west to DeKalb to take part in the NIU Invitational.

On Friday, Sept. 14, the Flames will participate in the Illinois Intercollegiates, hosted by Illinois State in Normal. The following weekend (Saturday, Sept. 22), the women's team will take part in the Forester Invitational in Libertyville, Ill., while the men's team will be idle from competition. Both the men's and women's teams will resume competition the following Saturday (Sept. 29) at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago.

The Flames' first scheduled meet during the month of October will be at the UW-Parkside Invitational in Kenosha, Wis., on Saturday, Oct. 6. Six days later, UIC will make its second trip to central Illinois, traveling to Peoria to participate in the Bradley Classic. The annual Horizon League Championship will be held in Kenosha, Wis., on Saturday, Oct. 27, while the ensuing NCAA Regional meet will take place on Friday, Nov. 9.

The UIC men's cross country team is coming off a third-place finish at the Horizon League Championship last season, while the women's squad finished the 2011 campaign with a seventh-place finish at the League meet.

The women's team will be bolstered by the return of All-Horizon League performers Jaime Johnson and Tess Ehrhardt. The men's team lost a trio of All-Horizon League standouts to graduation, but return the services of senior Matt Zaluckyj and Angelos Karkalis, among others.
