Junior Monieka Thompson (Chicago, Ill./Steinmetz) was selected as the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week following her performance at the Woodland Mortgage Indiana US Track and Field Championships hosted by Butler at IUPUI on Saturday.

She broke her own outdoor school-record in the 800-meter run with a blazing third-place finish of 2:09.78. That mark is good for the fastest time in the MCC this season.

Thompson, who set the original record of 2:12.44 last season, set the conference 800-meter record earlier this season at the 2001 MCC Indoor Track and Field Championships.

UIC will return to Indianapolis this Saturday as they will participate in the MCC Outdoor Track and Field championships hosted by Butler.
