Chicago, Ill. - UIC women's track and field coach Jim Knoedel announced on Friday that he has inked Tamika Johnson (Bellwood, Ill./Proviso West) to a national letter of intent.

Knoedel believes that Johnson, who was a member of three relay teams that placed at state last season, has the ability to make an immediate impact for the Flames in her freshman year.

"I am thrilled about signing Tamika," Knoedel said. "She is one of the best 400-meter runners in Illinois and will probably come home with two or three medals from the state track meet this season.

"I am counting on her to help our 4x400 relay team to be the dominant team in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference and lead to a MCC Team Title.
