    YPSILANTI, Mich. - Sophomore multi-event specialist Matt Marzahl won two-of-five events in the decathlon during the first day of the Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Rynearson Stadium Friday afternoon, finishing first-place in both the high jump and shot put. In addition, junior Jennifer Johnson won the shot put in the heptathlon.

    Marzahl recorded a throw of 10.99 meters in the shot put, finishing nearly 0.5 meters ahead of Detroit's Taylor Hennrick (10.50 meters). In the high jump, Marzahl leaped 1.95 meters to edge second-place Dan Simon (1.92 meters) from Milwaukee.

    Johnson convincingly outpaced the League's other eight competitors in the shot put, recording a throw of 11.31 meters. She also took third in the high jump, leaping 1.57 meters.

    Events 6-10 in the decathlon, and 5-7 in the heptathlon, will wrap up on Saturday morning. The individual throwing events in the Horizon League Outdoor Championship are set to get underway at 1:30 p.m. ET (12:30 p.m. CT).
