CHICAGO—UIC women’s distance runner Tess Ehrhardt and women’s golfer Elizabeth Curtiss have both been selected as the Illinois National Guard UIC Flames Student-Athletes of the Week for the period Apr.21-27. Ehrhardt set a school record in the 3,000-meter run, while Curtiss had the lowest 54-hole score at conference championships in program history.

At the Benedictine Twilight on Friday afternoon, Ehrhardt finished first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:51.85. Her first place finish contributes to the team’s overall five first-place honors.

This marks Ehrhardt’s seventh time being honored as the Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week on the year, and the second of the spring season.

On the opening day of the 2014 Horizon League Championship, Curtiss tied her career low with a round of 78. She also carded seven pars and four birdies. She finished day two with a score of 81 and also collected 10 pars and one birdie. The junior ended the weekend as UIC’s top finisher as she tied for 15th place with a 54-hole total of 243. The Byron, Ill. native also carded 84 on the third day and 11 pars.  Her three-round total (243) was the lowest score at conference championship in program history, surpassing the previous total of 247.

This marks Curtiss’ first time being honored as the Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week.

The women’s track & field team will next travel to Youngstown State to compete in the 2014 Horizon League Outdoor Championships.
