CHICAGO, Ill. – The men’s and women’s track & field teams concluded action at the DePaul Relays Saturday afternoon, with the women finishing in fourth-place and the men taking home third.

Junior Sharon Mwale contributed a solid performance in the high jump recording a season best of 1.60 meters to lead the women.

“Sharon Mwale had a great performance today clearing a season's best in the high jump, said head coach Jim Knoedel.  “She has worked very hard and stayed very focused on improving and today was testament to that work ethic.”

Teammates Noelle Williams and Desirae Ranberg also recorded personal records in the hammer throw with marks of 47.70 meters and 41.86 meters, respectively.  Williams also competed in the javelin throw tossing a distance of 28.37 meters.

“Our female hammer throwers came up with two big PR's today against very good competition,” said Knoedel.  “I was pleased that they responded to the competitive field and moved up on the Horizon League performance list.”

On the men’s side, Photis Karkalis dominated the track with outstanding performances in the 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter run.  In the 1,500-meter run Karkalis crossed the finish line with a time of 4:00.52 and in the 5,000-meter run he finished with a competitive time of 15:49.87 earning second-place.

Teammate Alex Bailey took home top honors in the triple jump recording a mark of 12.77 meters.

Juniors Tess Ehrhardt and Rebecca Zaiter traveled to Walnut, Calif., to compete in the prestigious Mt. Sac Relays.

Ehrhardt ran in the 5,000-meter run besting her own school record of 17:00, crossing the finish line with a time of 16:52.94.

“When Tess sets her sites on something she always gets it,” said Knoedel.  “I'm not surprised she broke her mark by almost twenty seconds.”

Zaiter also set an outdoor personal record in the 800-meter run, finishing with a time of 2:12.57.

The Flames track & field teams will return to action on April 24 and April 25 to participate in the Drake Relays and Benedictine Twilight.
