Raleigh Relays

CHICAGO, Ill. – Fourteen members of the men’s and women’s track and field team traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina this weekend to compete in the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University.

“We had two great performances in the 5K as Lauren L and Tess came up with big efforts,” said head coach Jim Knoedel.  “Lauren cut 25 seconds off her previous best and Tess broke the SR with an amazing effort. These two have busted their tails the past three weeks and the results show their dedication.”

The women were led by junior Tess Ehrhardt who finished the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:11.18.  Teammate Lauren Lindholm also ran the 5,000-meter crossing the finish line in 17:41.35.

Junior Rebecca Zaiter participated in the 800-meter and 1,500-meter run finishing in 2:13.31 and 4:37.30, respectively.

The men were dominated by freshman Kyle Hauser who ran the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:56.00.

“Kyle H continues to amaze me with his performances,” said Knoedel. “The 59.5 last lap shows me he still has a lot left in the tank. He's one of the most talented milers I've coached and I would not be surprised if he breaks the school record in the 1500 meters very soon.”

Teammate Seyi Ogunleye also competed in the triple jump finishing with a mark of 14.06 meters.

DuPage Invite

The remaining members of the Flames track & field teams ran at the DuPage Invitational hosted by the College of DuPage.

UIC’s Jordan Banks took home top honors in the men’s long jump with a mark of 6.65 meters.  Banks also placed second in the triple jump recording a mark of 13.36 meters.

Teammates Neel Patel and Marcus Garcia competed in the 5,000-meter run against 20 runners, crossing the finish line in 15:52.70 and 16:17.63, respectively.

On the women’s side, junior Gabrielle Schmidt took second in the 100-meter hurdles crossing the finish line in just 16.44 seconds.

Teammate Stephanie Sanders also placed second in the 1,500-meter run crossing the finish line with a time of 5:05.80.

In the field, Desirae Ranberg placed second in women’s discus throw with a mark of 34.89 meters.

Noelle Williams and Ranberg placed first and third in the hammer throw with marks of 46.20 and 37.13 meters, respectively.

In women’s high jump, Sharon Mwale took home first place after leaping 1.55 meters.
