    YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio- The UIC's men's and women's track & field teams qualified for the finals of six individual events after the first day of action at the 2014 Horizon League Indoor Championship.  The women's team will enter Sunday's competition in third-place (24 points), while the men's squad currently sits in second-place (27 points). 

    The women's team placed second in the Women's Distance Medley Relay as Emma Preston, Rebecca Zaiter, Imani Dixon and Tess Erhahrdt crossed the finish line in 11:54.84.

    Zaiter also placed first in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:15.61, securing a spot in the finals tomorrow.

    On the men's side, the foursome of Kyle Hauser, Gunnar Sterne, Angelos Karkalis and Photis Karkalis took home first place honors finishing with a mark of 10:04.01. 

    Matt Marzahl competed in the Heptathlon securing third-place, with victories in shot put (12.28m) and high jump (1.93m). 

    Entering competition on Sunday, the Flames have finalists in the men's and women's 400-meter dash, 800-meter, 5,000-meter run, long jump and weight throw.

    Youngstown State leads both the men's (66 points) and women's (121 points) competition thus far.
