Dion & Ehrhardt Named Illinois National Guard Student-Athletes of the Week|

CHICAGO—UIC women’s gymnast Catherine Dion and women’s cross country runner Tess Ehrhardt have both been selected as the Illinois National Guard UIC Flames Student-Athletes of the Week for the period Feb.3-.9. Dion collected three career-best scores on Sunday, while Ehrhardt set a new school record in the 5,000-meter run on Saturday.
Dion helped her team come away with a second-place victory in Sunday’s matchup against Alaska Anchorage and Southeast Missouri. She placed second on bars with a career-high score of 9.800, first on beam with a career-high score of 9.850, and tied for first on the floor exercise with a career-high score of 9.875. The Canada native also came away with all-around first-place honors, posting a career-best score of 39.375.
This marks Dion’s first time being honored as the Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week on the year as well as the first time for a women’s gymnast to be selected.
At the University of Notre Dame Meyo Invitational, Ehrhardt set a school record in the 5,000-meter run. She finished the run with a time of 17:09.90, beating the former school record by 20 seconds and her personal best by 35 seconds.
This marks Ehrhardt’s fourth time being honored as the Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week and second consecutive honor.
The women’s gymnastics team will next host Texas Woman’s in a conference meet at the Physical Education Building on Friday at 7 p.m. CT. The women’s cross country team will also return to action on Friday as they head to Naperville, Ill. to compete in the Chicagoland Championships.
