Aimee Schuh taking home the individual title in the 60-meter hurdles at the Chicagolands.
Schuh crossed the finishing line in 8.95 seconds in the hurdles, and also finished fifth in the long jump (5.12 meters). She was a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that finished seventh. Also tallying top-10 finishes at the Chicagolands were Emma Preston (5:09.95; 4th) and Grace Millhorn (5:20.82; 8th) in the 1-Mile Run, and the foursome of Schuh, Jennifer Johnson, Katie Wallace and Michelle Knapcyzk in the 4x400 relay (4:16.70; 7th).
"Aimee (Schuh) is back to her hurdle form of two years ago," said head coach Jim Knoedel. "Each week she has shown improvement and I know she has more left. Emma Preston showed huge gains in the 1-Mile; I couldn't be more pleased with her effort. At the Big Meet, Tess (Ehrhardt) broke her own school record, and barely won her heat over Jaime Johnson. It was a good first day for us at both meets."
At the highly-competitive Big Meet in Allendale, Mich., Ariel Butzine made her indoor debut, and finished fourth in the 800-meter run (2:12.78). Rebecca Zaiter also finished 17th in the race (2:15.88), while Tess Ehrhardt took 26th (5:06.37) and Jaime Johnson crossed the finish line in 27th (5:06.39). Ehrhardt also finished 22nd in the 3,000-meter run (10:19.09).
On the men's side, Anthony Hollingsworth took 19th in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 22.17 seconds. Ryan Blackmon finished 27th in the 400-meter dash (50.36), while Angelos Karkalis placed 31st in the 800-meter run (1:59.06). Seyi Ogunleye tallied the Flames' highest individual finish, placing fourth overall in the triple jump (13.88 meters).
The men's events at the Chicagoland Championships will get underway Saturday at 10:00 a.m., and competition at the Big Meet will continue throughout the day on Saturday.
