SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – The UIC men’s and women’s cross country teams wrapped up the 2012 season at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet on Friday afternoon on the campus of Missouri State.  Freshman Pat Niyork was the top male finisher for UIC in the 10K race, placing 100th overall as sophomore Tess Ehrhardt piloted the women’s squad in the 6K competition, crossing the line 101st

The Flames entered the meet fresh off an impressive Horizon League Championships performance, which both teams earned runner-up honors.  The NCAA regional featured numerous nationally-ranked programs including the No. 1 Oklahoma State men’s team and the No. 2 Iowa State women’s team.

“We left a lot of our best efforts at the Horizon League Championships,” said head coach Jim Knoedel.  “We have a very young team and have a lot to look forward to next year.  Pat (Niyork) started slow, but finished strong and Tess (Ehrhardt) has really come on strong at the end of the season.”
